Orienteering
This interesting middle distance was, as usual, easy for someone and more challenging for other participants to the Academy.
Nobody gave up even after a long time out in the forest.
As usual, in the evening we had the analysis of the race.
In the free day we took some participants of the Academy to see the MTBO stage in Järpen.
We also promoted the 2 must-have books for all orienteers:
•the history of sprint orienteering, in “Made for loving it”
•the collection of all maps and memories of World O-Championships since 1966: “Memories of the winners”
We went then for sightseeing the Ristafallet falls
And some of the participants went in town to watch the Sprint race of Elite classes.
We enjoyed to make together a puzzle of orienteering map awarded by LearnJoy ☺️
With a much more pleasant weather today, the race in an open area was easier for someone, and more challenging for others. Anyway everybody completed the course end enjoyed the day.
In the evening we had the pleasure to welcome Peo Bengtsson who told us about how O-Ringen started and some other amazing memories, while Albin and Johanna Ridefelt gave the Academy participants some very valuable advices.
We are so grateful for this day!

Some run very good, some less good, but NO ONE GAVE UP!
All Academy participants completed the races on the wet terrains of today’s race. The race included the corridor to the finish with some very muddy parts.
All returned smiling!
After the long day out at the race and arena, we analyzed everybody’s competition.

First day of O-Ringen Academy, Thursday 20th July 2023
Started with training in Otssjö,
continued with a visit to the O-Ringen square, where Nuno from Mozambique,
Ricardo from Colombia and Paul from Malaysia where interviewed
by Per Forsberg of Radio O-Ringen, who also interviewed Jaroslav Kacmarcik.
Recently, Giulia – Project Manager of PWT Academy, visited the Lovely Professional University of Jalandhar, Punjab (LPU) with the help of Dev Balhara.
Successful meetings were held with Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal, Associate Dean at Division of Students Affairs and Dr. V. Kaul, Professor and Associate Director – Division of Sport, who are keen to introduce orienteering and add a new sport to the 26 already practiced at the LPU.
The campus of the University is very big, 6km square, more than 25.000 students, 150 programs, students from more than 26 countries, and it is suitable to host both orienteering seminars but also orienteering races.
Roman Horky held a training on map making, while at Palmar beach. It consisted in one practical part in the forest and then a “question time” part.
All the interested people were already given the basic information about map making during the webinar from April to June, with the precious help of Andreas Kyburz, project manager of OCAD.
From 15th October 2021 Mr Roman Horky, a professional map maker, was in Mauritius to start to draw the first orienteering maps following the international standards.
He started from Palmar beach area, on the East side of the country.
On 08/10 Mrs Hima Seeboruth and Mr John Domah of Orienteering M guided Mr Jaroslav Kacmarcik of IOF – Global Development Commission and Ms Giulia Zenere of Park World Tour Academy, thanks to the facilitation of NPCS, to visit Black River Gorges National Park from the entrance in Pétrin (Black River) and on an easy track up to the first viewpoint.
The park and its nature look stunning, the tracks are wide and provided with brand-new signs, from here the nature is very exposed to sunshine.
There are four entry points to the National Park. This nature reserve provides over 60 km of trails of different lenghts and difficulty – the longest of 14km, waterfalls, pristine rivers, picnic areas, wide canyons and dramatic mountain ranges, together with two information centres.
Staying on the south-west part of the Island, the delegation continued its journey to Green Village – Le Morne to meet Dr. Bernard Baptiste, Head of Youth on the Move and Elderly programmes, responsible for the Outdoor Education.
Dr Baptiste guided us through Green Village, a fantastic venue. The idea is to implement the activities in the village with orienteering, and have an orienteering map to be used also for schools, together with a punching system.
The delegation continued to Black River Gorges NP from the south entrance. The park on this side looks totally different than from the north. Very tall and shady trees and stream, on an almost flat terrain with stones, makes it look gorgeous.
